Voisin announces for Morgan City mayor

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following announcement has been authorized for release by the candidate’s campaign. Publication is provided as a public service and implies no endorsement by The Daily Review or Louisiana State Newspapers.

My name is Kevin Voisin and I am grateful for this opportunity to bring my qualifications before the voters for the office of Morgan City mayor in the Nov. 6 election.

I was born and raised in Morgan City and have been married to the former Becky Alleman for the past 21 years. She is currently the chief accountant for the St. Mary Parish School Board. We are the proud parents of one child, Peyton Voisin, who is 12 years old and attends Morgan City Junior High School. My parents are Elaine Voisin and the late Jessie H. Voisin Sr.

I am a 1984 graduate of Morgan City High School. After graduation, I attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. I am a licensed Fidelity & Surety Insurance agent in Louisiana and have been a self-employed business owner for the past 24 years, owning and operating Atchafalaya Bonding Service.

I am a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus 12179. Being an active member in various civic and business groups, including the St. Mary Chamber of Commerce, St. Mary Parish Industrial Group and the Atchafalaya Petroleum Institute, allows me to be informed about the varying needs of our great city.

My past and present governmental experience, which I’ve listed below, would allow me to effectively and efficiently serve as your full-time mayor.

—Preparing and balancing annual governmental budgets.

—Twelve years elected single-member District 7 St. Mary Parish Councilman.

—One year elected At-Large Parishwide District 11 St. Mary Parish Councilman.

—One year Chairman St. Mary Parish Council.

—Thirteen years St. Mary Parish Council Finance Committee.

—Four years Chairman St. Mary Parish Council Finance Committee.

—Thirteen years Louisiana Policy Jury Association.

—Thirteen years National Association of County Officials.

—Sixteen years Chairman of the St. Mary Parish Substance Abuse and Mental Health Advisory Committee.

—Four years Morgan City Flood Steering Committee.

—Five years Morgan City Power Boat and Fishing Tournament Committee.

—Three years Atchafalaya Delta Tourist Commission.

When elected as your full-time mayor, I pledge not only to fulfill the duties of this office, but also to offer my services to all area business leaders by aiding in any additional tasks necessary to help Morgan City become a city with ample job opportunities for its citizens. Additionally, I pledge to continue to be hard-working, independent and available to everyone. My telephone numbers are published as 985-384-1750 (office), 985-385-5007 (home) and 985-381-6005 (cell).

I will have an open door policy at City Hall. City Hall belongs to the people and I want everyone to feel welcome there to discuss any problems or concerns they may have. As your mayor, I will focus on solving the FEMA levee elevation issue, improving the reliability of our utility system, work with all area landowners to entice future residential and commercial development, work to obtain all state and federal grants available, provide the best safety for our citizens by properly funding and providing training for continuing the quality of our police and fire departments, expand recreational activities for our children and keep our city clean throughout the entire year.

I pledge to support the City Charter and to put my many years of governmental and business experience to work as your full-time mayor. My family and I look forward to visiting with you during the course of this campaign. I humbly ask for your vote on the Nov. 6 election so that we can work together to move our city forward.
