Lumberjacks upset Erath, 45-35

Patterson upset the Erath Bobcats, 45-35, Friday, handing Erath and the state’s leading rusher, Elijah Mitchell, their first district loss this season.

CCHS routs Hanson, 46-6

Central Catholic High School's Jesse Fontenot (54) and Dominic Skipper (6) corral a Hanson ball carrier, while other defenders come to offer assistance. Central Catholic's defense turned in another impressive performance, limiting Hanson to just 100 yards of offense and six points in Thursday's 46-6 victory in District 7-1A action in Franklin. Swing for a Cause poker run winner

Tillman Simmons won the Poke Run associated with the Second Annual Swing for a Cause Golf Tournament. The event was held in September at The Atchafalaya at Idlewild near Patterson. Area LHSPA winners

Tim Hayles of Berwick finished second in Class C in the Louisiana State Singles Horseshoe Pitching Championships on Sept. 24 in Welsh. Hayles finished with a 4-2 mark and a ringer percentage of 26.3. He fell in a 40-shoe playoff with first-place finisher Mack Thibodeaux of Lake Arthur. Thibodeaux finished 5-1 with a ringer percentage of 27.5. Above, in no particular order, are Thibodeaux, Hayles and third-place finisher Charles Savoy of Jennings. Hayles wasn't the only Berwick resident to excel at the event as Ryan Fryou of Berwick won Class B with a 5-0 mark and a ringer percentage of 28.
