City seeking nonprofits for Mardi Gras event

“Mardi Gras on the Bayou” is set for March 4 after the Franklin All Krewes parade.
The event is 2-5 p.m. along the bayou on Teche Drive. The city is challenging nonprofit organizations such as charities, churches, school groups, booster clubs, social organizations and Relay for Life teams to see which types of organizations will have the most representation at the event.
“I’d like to see how many schools, nonprofit organizations or social groups will participate in the event,” Mayor Raymond Harris said. “So far, we have five organizations doing games, and six organizations providing food and drinks. Booth space is free, and organizations get to keep all of their earnings. This is a great opportunity for organizations to raise money for future projects and worthy causes.”
Nonprofits are needed to provide food and non-alcoholic drinks. Nonprofits must complete a vendor application and have their own materials to set up along Bayou Teche. Each must have a sign with its name, items and prices. Twelve spaces (two parking spaces per vendor along the Bayou Teche) will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline to apply to be a vendor is Feb. 28 at 12 p.m.
Nonprofit organizations are also needed to provide and supervise children’s games and offer prizes to the children. Carnival games are suggested for the children such as sack races, darts, ring toss, hula hoop contests and horseshoes. Organizations that agree to host a game must be able to supply their own materials, prizes and setup. Additionally, the organizations must have a sign with their name and the cost to play the games. Organizations that would like to participate as game hosts must complete a game host application. Twelve spaces (two parking spaces per vendor along the Bayou Teche) will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis. The deadline to apply to be a game host is Feb. 28 at 12 p.m.
The Michael Foster Project will perform from 2:30-4:30 p.m. under the pavilion. A 40-foot slide will be behind Center Theater.
