Morgan City men arrested on drug possession charges
Two Morgan City men were arrested by Morgan City police after an investigation into the alleged distribution of a controlled dangerous substance at an apartment complex.
—Arthur Streetman, 22, of Solar Apartments in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:20 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for possession of a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance (diazepam).
—Michael L. Hickson, 21, of Solar Apartments in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:20 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for possession of a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance (diazepam).
Streetman and Hickson were located at Solar Apartments in Morgan City and arrested on warrants stemming from an incident Wednesday regarding the illegal distribution of a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance. During the investigation, it was alleged that a resident of Solar Apartments was dispensing a controlled dangerous substance to others in the complex. Streetman and Hickson were taken to the city jail where they are being held awaiting bail.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:
—Ricky Barnett, 44, of Roderick Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:21 p.m. Thursday on warrants for DWI, simple battery, no taillights and failure to appear for driving under suspension/revocation. A local bail bondsman located Barnett and handed him over to police where he was booked on the outstanding warrants. Barnett was booked into the Morgan City Jail where he remains in jail. No other information was available.
—Joel Allen Gier, 22, of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 9:39 a.m. Thursday for driving under suspension. A police officer stopped a vehicle being driven by Gier for a traffic violation. During the investigation, police found that Gier was operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. He was arrested and taken to the Morgan City Jail and held.
—Dustin Ferguson, 20, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:23 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for a probation violation. Ferguson was located in city court and placed under arrest. He is still being held.
—Raphael Joseph Chapman, 41, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:59 a.m. Friday for domestic abuse battery. Officers responded to a call of a domestic disturbance at a Federal Avenue residence. When officers arrived they discovered Chapman had been involved in an altercation with a female occupant of the residence. During the altercation, Chapman allegedly committed a battery on the female causing minor injuries. He was arrested and taken to the city jail where he remains awaiting bail. The female did not require or refused medical treatment, according to police.
—Patricia R. Williams, 18, of Lawrence Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:36 a.m. Wednesday for simple battery. Morgan City police were summoned to Morgan City High School regarding a fight. Upon investigation and reviewing video evidence, they learned that Williams had committed a battery upon another student, the report stated. Williams was taken to the police department and released after posting cash bail.
—Mark Anthony Matherne, 37, of Solar Apartments in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:23 a.m. Wednesday for possession of a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance and distribution of a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance. Morgan City police were summoned to Solar Apartments in regard to a subject having medical difficulties. Upon arrival, officers located a male subject in physical distress and summoned an ambulance to render aid. While conducting an investigation, it was alleged that Matherne had given the victim several Diazepam pills prior to the incident, the report stated.
Matherne was located and questioned regarding the incident and admitted to providing the medication to the victim, the report stated. Matherne was also in possession of a bottle containing more Diazepam pills. Matherne was taken to jail and is awaiting bail. The victim was taken to Teche Regional where he was treated and released.
—Shannon A. Wainright, 41, of Chester Bowles Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:52 p.m. Wednesday for disturbing the peace. Officers were summoned to a residence on Chester Bowles Street in reference to a disturbance. When officers arrived Wainright and her juvenile daughter were engaged in a loud argument using profanities. Officers warned both that their continued use of loud, profane language would not be allowed. As officers attempted to leave, both became involved in a loud and profane argument which could be heard from outside the residence, according to police. Both Wainright and the juvenile were taken to jail. Wainright was charged with disturbing the peace. Wainright was released after posting cash bail of $292. The juvenile was released to parents.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
