Mayor Grogan addresses Patterson Garden Club members
Patterson Garden Club held its monthly meeting Tuesday at the Patterson Area Civic Center. Hostesses for the meeting were Linda Thomas, Sharon Larson and Sandra Marshall. Members were treated to a meal of taco soup, salad and dessert.
Theme for the meeting was “The Future of Patterson,” with guest speaker Patterson Mayor Rodney Grogan. Grogan gave an informative talk about plans for the development of Patterson, including the opening of a farmer’s market, plans for economic development and the beautification of the city.
During the business portion of the meeting, the upcoming Arbor Day ceremony was discussed. Ginger Griffin, Arbor Day committee chairman, informed members that the ceremony will feature a tree dedicated in memory of the late Claire Sawyer, who was a member of the club and a Patterson councilwoman.
It will take place at 10 a.m. Jan. 25. The event will begin with a presentation by students at Hattie Watts Elementary in Patterson followed by a tree planting at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson.
Iris Roy, Ways and Means committee chairman, announced it is time for the club’s annual raffle. Tickets are $1 each or a book of six for $5. Three prizes will be awarded: $250, $150 and $100 gift certificates to Marvin’s Gardens in Patterson. The drawing will be held at the club’s March meeting.
Future business discussed included the Garden Therapy committee reminding members that the club will host the February birthday party at the Patterson Healthcare Center on Feb. 22.
The meeting concluded with the half-and-half drawing won by Rosa Butler.
