Hoodstock youth program

Hoodstock, a Morgan City community group, held a program “Transitioning to Manhood” on Sept. 6 at the St. Mary Parish Chamber of Commerce. The daylong activity was for junior high and high school students. About 20 students and 20 adults attended programs such as Dress for Success, Combating Peer Pressure, Respect, Education, and a Necktie How-to Tutorial. Volunteers traveled as far as Lafayette; New Orleans; Atlanta; and Orlando, Florida, while Orlando Magic player Elfrid Payton was one of the guest speakers at the event. The majority of presenters were from St. Mary Parish, including Morgan City Mayor Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi, long-time coach Herman Hartman, actor Isaac White and fitness trainer Kreig Triggs. Those attending the program in the photo included Kearias Austin, Donnell Ruffin, Chai Jones, Tyshawn Charlot, DeAndre Long, Kerwin Francois, Caleb Young, Gabriel McCurtis, Gilbert Johnson, Tavaris Howard, Zion Landry, Jared Singleton, Tylan J. Bennett, Kurvontay Webb, Migel Webb, Joshua Mote, Ronnell Williams, Jarmaine Hawkins, all students; and adults, Courtney “Schola” Long, Payton and Christian Dawkins.
