A caravan of 23 RVs representing 14 states and Canada stopped at Lake End Park over the weekend as part of a tour of south Louisiana.
Doug Stoudt of Berthoude, Colo., and assistant rallymaster for the group, said the Cajun Tour is exploring southern Louisiana. The group started in Gibson touring the alligator farm and rode in an airboat, then stayed a couple days in Grand Isle, and traveled to Morgan City touring the “Mr. Charlie” rig.
The tour is sponsored by Fantasy RV Tours based in Las Vegas. Stoudt is also doing four other RV tours this year including a polar bear tour in Canada.
The group brought 45 people from Texas, Virginia, Kansas, Indiana, Canada, Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, California, South Dakota, Washington, Oklahoma, Colorado, Nebraska and Pennsylvania.
The group spent Friday through Monday morning in Morgan City and were headed to Breaux Bridge next, Stoudt said. His wife, Linda, accompanies him on all their trips. The Cajun Tour lasts 14 days.
Don Wachholtz, who was on the tour with his wife, said they sold their home 10 years ago and travel across the country full-time. Wachholtz had traveled to New Orleans several times but not to the Morgan City area. The couple has been to Arizona and California this year and will travel to Michigan during the summer. Wachholtz is originally from just outside Omaha, Neb.
“We move back and forth every other year,” Wachholtz said. “We try to find some place in the summer where it’s cooler and some place in the winter where it’s warmer.”
