Six area softball players on 1A, 3A state teams

Six Tri-City area softball players earned Louisiana Softball Coaches Association All-State honors in either Class 1A or Class 3A.
Four of the selections belong to Central Catholic in Class 1A, while Berwick and Patterson each had a Class 3A selection.
In Class 1A, Central Catholic’s Megan Landry, (pitcher), Geralyn Garrett (outfielder), Kimberly Russo (infielder) and Bridgette Swan (utility) were selected.
In Class 3A, Berwick’s Shannon Theriot (outfielder) and Patterson’s Rachel Easley (utility) were selected.
All of Central Catholic’s selections previously already earned first-team All-District 7-1A honors this season, with Landry receiving District 7-1A Most Valuable Player honors.
The quartet earned Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A All-State honors, too. Landry and Garrett were first-team selections, while Russo and Swan were honorable mention selections.
Landry finished her junior season with a 27-4 mark, a 1.05 ERA and 320 strikeouts. She surrendered just 24 earned runs and walked just 24 this season while also recording a .957 fielding percentage.
Offensively, she hit .420 with 13 RBIs and had an on-base percentage of .484.
Garrett, a senior, finished the 2014 season with a .507 batting average with four home runs, 28 RBIs, 14 stolen bases and 26 runs. She recorded a .551 on-base percentage.
Defensively, she had a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Russo, a senior, hit .450 with one home run, 10 RBIs, 19 stolen bases and 33 runs. She had an on-base percentage of .462.
Defensively, she recorded a .925 fielding percentage.
Swan, a junior first baseman, batted .440 with two home runs and 28 RBIs.
Defensively, she had a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Senior shortstop Katie Frith of Vermilion Catholic also made the all-state team as a utility selection. She batted .361.
In Class 3A, Theriot, a junior, batted .604.
The ULL-commit previously earned District 9-3A MVP honors and was a first-team Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State selection.
Easley, a senior third baseman, batted .517 this season with 10 doubles, one triple, one home run, 26 RBIs, 38 runs scored and a .769 slugging percentage.
Easley previously was named first-team All-District 9-3A and was a Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A honorable mention All-State selection.
Berwick and Patterson’s district foe, E.D. White, also was recognized on the team with junior catcher Sydney Falcon making the team. Falcon batted .442.
