Harvest Moon pageant deadline extended
The deadline to enter the Franklin Merchants Association 14th annual Harvest Moon Festival Royalty Pageant has been extended.
Brittany Grimes, Harvest Moon Festival Queen V, is preparing to relinquish her crown during the 14th annual festivities. Theme for the pageant is “Southern Belle Garden Party,” and will be hosted at Shadowlawn.
On Sept. 28, contestants and visiting royalty will stroll from Shadowlawn Plantation down the historic banks of Bayou Teche wearing large fancy hats and sundresses as they partake in the Promenade d’art de Franklin in downtown Franklin before heading to the 7 p.m. pageant at the Teche Theatre in Franklin.
The pageant is open to young women throughout St. Mary Parish. Three age divisions include Miss Harvest Moon, ages 16 to 22; Teen Miss Harvest Moon, ages 13 to 15; and Little Miss Shining Star, ages 10 to 12.
To be eligible for the pageant, applicants must reside in St. Mary Parish or be a graduate of a St. Mary high school. They must be single, never married, have no children and be of good moral character. Applicants must be able to participate fully, without limitation in all required activities, if crowned queen.
Each applicant must compete in all phases of competition in the division entered. All miss contestants must agree to reign during the Oct. 5 festival and to be contracted to the festival for a full year.
Anyone entering the pageant must not be a queen with any other festival, fair, parish or state.
Entry fee is $50.
