Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers rally past Catholic High Lady Panthers
Mallory Chaisson belted an RBI-single to second plating Kim Sonnier in the bottom half of the 10th inning while supporting the superb pitching of Emily Champagne and Evelyn Pontiff as the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers turned back the Catholic High School of New Iberia Lady Panthers, 3-2, Thursday at the HMS Softball Complex.
Champagne earned the mound victory in relief of Pontiff as the pair outdueled Catholic High’s Chelie Shales.
Champagne worked six innings, giving up one run on two hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Pontiff started on the mound for the Lady, pitching four complete frames, surrendering one run on five hits with three strikeouts and one free pass.
Shales went the distance for the Lady Panthers, allowing three earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fifth frame.
Mallory Chaisson, Lexi Coleman and Paige Diamond all drove in runs with key hits for the HMS Lady Tigers.
Hanson struck for two runs in the fifth when Emily Sonnier and Lexi Coleman tagged home plate.
Emily Sonnier ignited the rally with a single before scoring on Coleman’s RBI double as HMS trimmed Catholic High’s lead to 2-1. Coleman later scored, helping the Lady Tigers knot the score at 2-2.
In the bottom half of the 10th, Kim Sonnier ripped a double before advancing to to third on Paige Diamond’s RBI single. With runners in scoring position, Mallory Chaisson lined a single to second, scoring Sonnier with the winning run as the HMS Lady Tigers rallied to beat Catholic High by a 3-2 score in 10 innings.

Hanson (3-0) will play host to the Patterson Lady Jills on Saturday at 1 p.m.
