Justin Edward Patterson may have mistaken Mikki Jay Dauntain, the man he allegedly shot to death in 2013 in Morgan City, for another person he believed was one of the people who robbed him six weeks earlier in the city of Patterson.

Food Net’s “Food for Families” drive is in full gear today. Locally, donations can be made at the following locations: Church of the Assumption’s parish hall, Main and Iberia streets, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Baldwin Fire Department, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Main Street, Baldwin; St. Joseph Catholic Church, Centerville, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please check the expiration dates on all canned goods that they are not expired. Monetary donations are also accepted.

Marine Corps Band to play Toys for Tots benefit Dec. 6

The Marine Corps Band New Orleans will play a holiday concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium to benefit the Marine Corps League-St. Mary Detachment’s Toys for Tots drive. The concert is free to the public, but attendees are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy to support Toys for Tots in St. Mary and lower St. Martin parishes.

Lighting ceremonies are Thursday

Berwick public works employees Erika Laine and Chris Fabre straighten Christmas light decorations Wednesday morning near the intersection of La. 182 and U.S. 90 in Berwick. Both Berwick and Morgan City will have Christmas lighting ceremonies at 6 p.m. Thursday. Berwick's boys clawed out a home court win, 53-42, win against the 6-2A Catholic High of New Iberia Panthers. Individual statistics for BHS wasn't available at press time. Both the Panthers and the Lady Panthers will play Friday at Christian Life Academy

The Berwick High School Lady Panthers and Panthers were in action Tuesday night at home. The Lady Panthers (8-3A) were out-hustled by the H.L.
