Charter members of the Krewe of Galatea gather annually for a luncheon to reminisce about the organization that was created in 1969 by the late Adrienne Engel. The group purchased a pier mirror that has been donated and placed in front of the Paul Schreier Memorial Theater at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium. Charter members also purchased a plaque that displays the names of all 120 original members of the krewe. The plaque is displayed in front of the auditorium’s office. On hand for the donation were, seated from left, Mary Catherine Gray, Audrey Thibodeaux, Rosemarie Vining, Lorraine Brownell Moreau and Muriel Manuel. MORGAN CITY — A late morning fire damaged two units at the Villa Apartments in Morgan City, according to witnesses.
Resident Zach Dauzat confirmed that two apartments were damaged.
Dauzat had no idea what caused the fire. Dauzat said he was in the shower when he noticed the roof was on fire and it was spreading. He was able to get out unharmed, and the fire department arrived shortly after, he said.
All Morgan City fire personnel were called to the 11:30 a.m. fire. Within 15 minutes, the smoke had slowed, witnesses said.
Dauzat said no one was injured in the fire. Fire personnel still were on scene at noon.
