An infusion of young talent has the Berwick football program looking forward to big things. The Panthers’ freshman and sophomore classes come in with a winning tradition. When Craig Brodie took over the Berwick program, he reached out to junior high and youth league coaches in the area.

First round of qualifiers

Candidate qualifying for the Nov. 4 election began this morning and continues through Friday. Local candidates who have signed up thus far include: —Baldwin mayor: Michael “Mike” Lancelin. —Baldwin police chief: David J. Robertson. —District judge, Div. G: Lucretia Pecantte and Curtis Sigur.
Progressive Waste Solutions, the City of Franklin’s garbage pickup handler, failed to show at Tuesday’s meeting of the City Council. Despite numerous requests since the July meeting to discuss continued and longtime problems with the company, the city council had no one to address their grievances to.

BEARS ham radio operators participate in lighthouse event

The International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend is planned Saturday and Sunday at the Everett S. Berry Memorial Lighthouse Park. Demonstrations and displays by amateur radio operators will highlight the event.

Senior activities

St Mary Council on Aging sponsored a prize bingo on Aug. 3 at the American Legion Post 242 in Patterson. Players won a variety of prizes that were donated by businesses across St.

Strange tree partners

Alda Governale shared her story on Friday about the pumpkin seeds she planted at her home in Patterson. The vine grew up and now pumpkins are dangling from the trees. A net and ladders have been placed under the pumpkins to support the weight until the pumpkins become ripe.
