The St. Mary Council on Aging and a group of senior citizens recently made a trip to Pennsylvania. The group went shopping and exploring on their own to such landmarks as Independence Hall, Betsy Ross’ House, the mint, the Federal Reserve, the Holocaust Memorial, Logan Circle, Penn’s Landing and “The Rocky Steps” where this picture was taken.

Breaux Bridge – Female paddlers will get some extra love from Tour du Teche starting with next year’s race. The TDT Board of Directors has approved changes for Tour du Teche VI that include bonuses to the first boats powered solely by women to finish in each of four “pro” racing classes.
Judicial candidates Anthony Thibodeaux and Dean Wattigny have spent a combined $150,906 ahead of the Nov. 4 election, according to campaign finance reports. They are running for the Division A seat on the 16th Judicial District Court, which is being vacated by retiring judge Gerard B. Wattigny, the candidate’s brother.

Pumpkin contest in Berwick

The Berwick Junior High School PTO recently sponsored a pumpkin decorating contest. Pumpkins entered in the contest will be used to decorate area nursing homes. Winners, seated on the front row, are Jordan Gallegos, most school spirit: Julia Theriot, cutest; Madison Billiot, scariest; Ryan Domingue, goofiest; Grant Hebert, sportiest; Tyler Thibodeaux, funniest; and Landon Broussard, creepiest. Berwick celebrates life, light and everything old Saturday

On Thursday, James Lacoste, Iris Berry, Belinda Berry Lacoste, and Eljean Nesmith were setting up at the Brown House Museum for the upcoming A Celebration of Life and Light event. The event will begin at the Brown House Museum located at 3326 Third St. in Berwick at 10 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m. Saturday.
