Deep South Racing Association’s “Battle on the Basin” was held Saturday and Sunday, Sept.
The current exhibit, Handcrafted Treasures from the Louisiana Crafts Guild, at Louisiana State Museum — Patterson features art by Louisiana artisans such as hand-carved puppets by Alice Wallace, foreground. Among the many people attending the exhibits opening on Thursday were, foreground from left, Polly Rolman-Smith, Louisiana State Museum curator of science and technology; Miles Peterson, Louisiana Crafts Guild president; and Emma Hughes, guild board member. The yearlong exhibit will be on display 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Admission is free.

Wildon “Billy” Paul Gros Sr., of Amelia, went home to be with the Lord Sept. 28, 2014, at the age of 75, after a brief illness.
