Local people who recently opened new businesses in Morgan City are hopeful and counting on the region's economy to improve in 2017. The St. Mary Chamber of Commerce held ribbon cuttings for two Morgan City businesses last week, Labco Batteries and Kimbla's Cakes.

Baldwin and Franklin both held Martin Luther King Jr. Day events Monday in honor of the slain civil rights leader. In Franklin, the event was a motorcade which began on Wall Street and proceeded up the boulevard named in honor of Dr. King, then to St. Joseph's Baptist Church. More than 60 vehicles participated in the motorcade.

Tri-City area residents, young and old, were challenged Monday to have a cause in life that requires them to overcome giant obstacles during the St. Mary NAACP’s Martin Luther King Jr. program at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Morgan City.

SAS Construction Inc. was recently invited to attend Cabot Corporation’s Global Supplier Conference in Charlotte, NC. Out of 10,000 suppliers, the top 100 vendors/contractors were invited.
