Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the following arrests in an investigation into a business theft. McGuire said employees reportedly took money from a finance business on Weber Street.
For the second time in as many years, the Morgan City Recreation Department may be unable to host Pop Warner football this fall. Morgan City Recreation Director Seth Thomas said Tuesday that in 2014, for the first time in 40 years, the recreation department was not able to hold Pop Warner football due to a lack of interest.

Shooting victim mourned; hundreds turn out to say farewell to Mayci Breaux

Mourners file into the Church of the Assumption in Franklin today for the funeral of Mayci Breaux, 21. Breaux was one of two young women gunned down Thursday in the Lafayette Grand 16 movie theater shootings. The funeral for the second victim, Jillian Johnson of Lafayette, was scheduled for 12:30 p.m. today in that city.

Acadiana, St. Mary mourn theater victims

Mourners gathered at 1812 Main St. Friday in respect for the memory of Mayci Breaux, listening to words from local clergy, officials and family members. Breaux was a victim of a shooting in Lafayette Thursday at the Grand Theater on Johnston Street. At the end of the vigil purple balloons were released in Breaux’s honor.

Craig Smith, a resident of St. Amant with the team named Hot Ash Smokers, begins preparation for his brisket this morning. This is Smith’s fourth year competing in the annual Bayou BBQ Bash. The cooks can begin cooking after meat inspection is complete, which began Friday morning.

\Local cooks and cooks from out of town gave attendees to Thursday evening’s Bayou BBQ Bash kickoff party the chance to sample some of the barbecue they’ll cook during Saturday’s competition.
