A state-funded feasibility study finds tolls starting at 18 cents a mile could pay from one-quarter to one-half of the more than $3 billion price tag to complete I-49 South from Lafayette to New Orleans, but the state senator leading the charge says it was “not a very well thought-out study.”

Isidore Newman and Westlake were crowned Green and White Division tournament champions, respectively, Saturday at Morgan City High School’s 2014 Lady Tiger Classic. Newman defeated Hahnville 2-0 (25-18, 25-14) in the Green championship, while Westlake topped Central Lafourche 2-1 (22-25, 25-7, 15-11) in the White title match.

An organization of civil engineers is calling for a national strategy for mitigating flood risks, saying the U.S. has not fully heeded lessons from Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy. The American Society of Civil Engineers released its recommendations Monday during a conference on water issues in Philadelphia.
