St. Mary Parish activists who toiled to break racial barriers 50 years ago recounted their experiences organizing a movement for change that had mixed greetings from fellow blacks and resistance from whites in no hurry to change a society where they held the power and influence.

The St. Mary Central 12-year-old All-Stars finished runner-up Wednesday in the Majors South Regional at Wally Pontiff Jr. Playground in Metairie after losing to Ville Platte 8-5 in the championship game.

THE 11-YEAR-OLD All Star team from Franklin took second place in district competition this Dixie Youth season. The Dixie Youth North Regional Tournament wrapped up Wednesday in Bayou Vista with two teams from northern Louisiana claiming championship titles. West Ouachita 12-year-olds and Shreveport American 10-year-olds will continue on to the state tournament this weekend.

Bayou BBQ Bash cookers, crowd kept fired up despite rain threat

The third annual Bayou BBQ Bash survived the threat of bad weather and ended up being as much of a success as organizers could hope for under the circumstances.
