Stefano Guarisco took off offensively and the Central Catholic Eagles clamped down defensively to lead the Morgan City-based squad’s rally in the first half en route to a 54-27 victory Thursday.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Thursday to open the 80th Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival, which continues through Monday. Among those present were Festival Queen Anna Washburn, Children’s Day King Andrew Decondris, Children’s Day Queen Brenna Laubach, board members and workers of the Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival, Morgan City Mayor Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi, Berwick Mayor Louis Ratcliff, parish officials, family, and friends.

Armato, Washburn named festival royalty

The 80th Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival king and queen are John Armato of Patterson and Anna Washburn of Berwick. They will preside over the Festival that will be held Thursday through Labor Day in downtown Morgan City. A variety of festivities are planned including free live music in Lawrence Park, amusement rides under the U.S. 90 Bridge and the annual Blessing of the Fleet which will be held in Berwick this year due to wharf work in Morgan City.
