PATTERSON — The city received recognition Tuesday as part of the Bayou Teche Paddle Trail, a designation that allows communities along the trail to develop a “recreational economy” along the waterway, said Connie Castille, executive director of Teche Project.

Roaming boat gets secure home

The catamaran that has been drifting around Berwick Bay for nearly two weeks is towed to a secure spot by a Smith Maritime vessel Wednesday. The boat was placed on a sand bar.

The fiberglass catamaran that had been floating around Berwick Bay in the Atchafalaya River appears to have found a secure resting place.

Tour du Teche announces new spring races on bayou

Members of the Chitimacha Nation steady a paddler in Tour du Teche, the 135-mile ultra-marathon down the entire length of Bayou Teche. The tribe hosts a deluxe checkpoint on its reservation near Charenton every year, cooking hot dogs and padding the concrete ramp with discarded carpet from Cypress Bayou Casino. Tour du Teche Inc., will hold two one-day races for kayaks, canoes, pirogues and stand-up paddleboards this spring, one in April and one in May.
