Chitimacha Tribe’s inaugural Pow Wow was held Saturday in the Pavilion at Cypress Bayou Casino. Visitors packed the bleachers to watch indigenous tribal dancers and drummers. There were also Native American crafts vendors, foods such as fry bread and Indian tacos and much more. Organizers called the event a great success.

The local emergency room has seen what doctors describe as an “alarming increase” in patients using synthetic marijuana, and police say that while it’s been in the area for a number of years, its use is on the rise in the Tri-City area.

Time for a flu vaccination

While it’s still early in the season, 16 cases of the flu were reported by Teche Regional Medical Center’s emergency room between Sept. 1 and Tuesday.

Donation to Bayou Vista Elementary
