The Morgan City 9- and 11-year-old All-Stars had rough outings at their respective district tournaments in Thibodaux Thursday. The Morgan City 9s fell 16-6 in five innings to Franklin, while the Morgan City 11s fell 13-3 in four innings to Thibodaux.

Steve Morell was ready to heap praise on Morgan City government workers as he looked over Lawrence Park. “The city has done a great job,” said Morell, manager of the Main Street program. “It’s beautiful out here. We expect a great crowd.”
Two upcoming events at the Teche Theater for the Performing Arts are slated in July. On July 11 at 7 p.m. the Teche Theatre will again host the Magic and Acrobatics of the Crescent Circus.

Essay winners at Hattie Watts Elementary

Hattie Watts Elementary third- and fourth-graders participated in a Drug-Free Essay Contest during Drug Free Week. There were first, second and third place winners in each class. First place winners were Emily Ackman, Kaylee Bourgeois, Alyssa Henry, Camrin Marin, Kennedy Escort, Z’akiyah Merritt, K’vosha Diggs, Kwantae Collette and Destin Smith.

M C Bank employees held some Pink Days where employees were invited to sport the Morgan City High’s Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirts. They also had a special day designated as “Real Men Wear Pink” where they challenged men to wear pink to show their support. Proceeds from the Morgan City High Pink Volleyball Game will be used locally to assist women with much needed mammograms and diagnostic readings.

Central Catholic High School students recently participated in the Marine Corps League’s Toys for Tots program. Members of the National Junior Honor Society encouraged students to bring in a new toy to provide gifts for the children eligible.
