Morgan City High School’s Ke’Aira Turner will participate in the 15th Annual Down Under Track and Field Meet in Australia in July. Turner said she was selected to represent Louisiana in the 200-meter dash at the event, which will be held in Brisbane, Australia. Her trip will be July 5-13.

Memorial Day Weekend in Morgan City had a different atmosphere this year as the inaugural Freedom Fest was held at Lake End Parkway in Morgan City. The event, put on by the American Legion Riders Post 96 in Morgan City, featured a car show, bike show, live music, food and guest speakers, among other things.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Department deputies escorted American Legion Riders and guests to veteran memorials across the parish Sunday where they placed wreaths. This one is at the St. Mary Parish Peace Memorial in Franklin.

‘Tis the season

Decorated golf carts, pictured above, rolled down Main Street Saturday during Franklin’s Annual Christmas Parade and Lamp-Lighting Ceremony. Hundreds of participants turned out to watch the parade, play in the snow, enjoy music from Franklin local Ashley Pierce, the Franklin Senior High School band and local band Old Soul. During the festivities, this year’s official lamp lighter, St. Mary Council on Aging, flipped the switch to light up Franklin’s Christmas display down Main Street and on the bayou-side down Teche Drive. Another 18-wheeler overturns on La. 70 by Lake End Park this morning

An 18-wheeler carrying more than 50,000 pounds of concrete overturned this morning on La. 70. No injuries and no spill was reported, police said. As of about 7:30 a.m. today the roadway remained open. (Photo Courtesy of Morgan City Police Department)

For the second time in two days, an 18-wheeler overturned on La. 70 by Lake End Park, according to police.

Jump Start is designed to steer students to careers

Bayou Vista Garden Club installed officers for 2015-17 during its May meeting.
