Area Boy Scout leaders are upset that plans to renovate Morey Park on Main Street in Patterson appear to include getting rid of a Scout hut they say has stood at the park for 58 years.
West St. Mary Parish Relay for Life kicks off Saturday at noon at the Franklin High School field. The event in support of the American Cancer Society continues through midnight. Employees of the St. Mary Parish Clerk of Court Office wore jeans Friday rather than their usual uniforms as an in-office fundraiser for the Relay.

Amelia store robbed at gunpoint (updated)

At 3:34 pm Sunday, December 21, 2014, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Family Dollar store located on Highway 182 Frontage Road in Amelia. The perpetrator(s) left the area with approximately $150 in cash. The lone gunman exited the store and ran to a vehicle parked in a nearby RV park. Attached are 3 pictures gathered from video surveillance of this vehicle. Anyone who may recognize the vehicle or have information on the crime may contact the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-828-1960 or 985-384-1622. Callers may remain anonymous.
