Food Net’s “Food for Families” drive is in full gear today. Locally, donations can be made at the following locations: Church of the Assumption’s parish hall, Main and Iberia streets, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Baldwin Fire Department, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Main Street, Baldwin; St. Joseph Catholic Church, Centerville, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please check the expiration dates on all canned goods that they are not expired. Monetary donations are also accepted.

After months of severe drought in the Southeast, St. Mary Parish finally received a considerable amount of rain over the weekend and into the early part of the week. Some street flooding occurred in Franklin during the heaviest rainfalls, and residents recorded between 9-10 inches of rain over the entire period. Sheriff hosts Leadership St. Mary

Leadership St. Mary participant Lisa Morgan examines a presumptive test for blood. Different types of presumptive tests are used by investigators to determine whether a sample is a particular substance such as blood or gun powder.

The 2016 Leadership St. Mary group visited St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office headquarters for an inside look at the operations of our department, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Patterson High alum Blake Dreyer signed a letter of intent on Friday to continue his baseball career at Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas. Dreyer is a 2016 Patterson High graduate who played baseball for four years for the Lumberjacks. With Dreyer, are his father, Daniel Dreyer, left, and Sterling College Head Baseball Coach Jacob White. Brennan Gouaux was also signed by Sterling College, thanks to Blake Dreyer touting Gouaux's talent, but chose not to pose for a signing photo.
