Patterson blanked Berwick, 4-0, at home Friday in a continuation game from April 16. The game, which Patterson was leading 2-0, was called after the teams had already gone to the dugout for a lightning delay with Berwick batting with no outs in the top of the third inning and a runner on first.

Helping Hearts honors Edward B. Jones

Edward B. Jones was the 2015 honoree at Saturday's Helping Hearts Foundation banquest at the St. Mary Senior Citizen Center. Jones founded St. Mary'schapter of 100 Black Men and worked as an NAACP voter empowerment coordinator for Louisiana in 2004. To his left is Erica Johnson Rose, assistant district attorney, who was the banquet's guest speaker.

API awards $42,000 in scholarships

A total of $42,000 in scholarships went to students Thursday at the Atchafalaya Chapter of American Petroleum Institute’s 59th Annual Scholarship Banquet. Recipients of the scholarships were, from left: Berwick High senior Taylor Fegenbush, Patterson High senior Bailey Nelson, Central Catholic senior Lynze Belle, Berwick High senior Vroni Parsiola, Morgan City High senior Diana Tran, and Central Catholic senior John Parker.
