The City of Franklin put wreaths on the historic lamp posts this week as the Christmas season begins today after the Thanksgiving holiday. The 2014 Christmas parade and lamp-lighting ceremony are Saturday, Dec. 6. Line-up for the parade will begin at 5 p.m. on Jackson Street, and the parade will begin at 6 p.m.

Patterson relishes the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving week on the football field. For the second year in a row, the ’Jacks have reached the quarterfinal round of Class 3A playoffs; therefore, it’s a working holiday.

Fundraiser at Oceaneering

Oceaneering International held a cookoff at its Railroad Avenue yard in Morgan City to support St. Mary Outreach. Employees from different departments paired up to make the 22 teams that competed in the cook off. Oceaneering supplied the food needed to prepare the meals by giving each team an allotment at Rouses grocery store in Morgan City. Other employees purchased tickets to sample each dish that was cooked. All proceeds went to feed families for the holidays. History class at Berwick Junior High School

Danielle Pisani’s seventh grade American History class at Berwick Junior High recently conducted research on famous Americans. At the conclusion of the research, students were able to dress the part and present their findings. Students chose an array of famous Americans, including Richard Nixon, Clara Barton, Ellen DeGeneres, Oprah, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Amelia Earhart, Mahalia Jackson and Walt Disney.
