The yell of “Go! Go! Go!” heard late Friday evening could be heard around the city as Hanson Memorial High School Coach Brittany Broussard yelled instructions to Lady Tiger Alyssa Young as the HMS Lady Tigers pulled off a dramatic 1-0 eight-inning victory over the Quachita Christian School Lady Eagles at the HMS Girls Softball Complex.
Dr. Gary Wiltz, CEO of Teche Action Clinic and the chairman of the National Association of Health Care Centers was greeted by President Barack Obama Tuesday in the Rose Garden of the White House. The gathering was held after Obama signed a bill that guarantees community health center funding for the next two years.
“Last Bayou Passage” opens Tuesday at the Teche Theatre for the Performing Arts in downtown Franklin. A No Hitchin’ Production by Techeland Arts Council, the show will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and there will be a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday. Tickets are available at the door.

API awards $42,000 in scholarships

A total of $42,000 in scholarships went to students Thursday at the Atchafalaya Chapter of American Petroleum Institute’s 59th Annual Scholarship Banquet. Recipients of the scholarships were, from left: Berwick High senior Taylor Fegenbush, Patterson High senior Bailey Nelson, Central Catholic senior Lynze Belle, Berwick High senior Vroni Parsiola, Morgan City High senior Diana Tran, and Central Catholic senior John Parker.

Export business keeps growing; 4,000 tons of rice headed to Haiti
