A plan is now in place to begin work to certify the city’s backwater levees for flood protection with construction expected to be completed on a portion of the project by the end of 2015, according to officials.

Mitchell Mancuso, an eighth-grade student at Central Catholic High School in Morgan City, was honored recently by being selected to the USSSA All-State Majors baseball team. The top players from each age group throughout Louisiana were honored at the USSSA All-State Games where they competed and showcased their skills in all areas of play. Mancuso has played in
USSSA travel ball since age 9 under the guidance of area coaches such as Lud Henry, Gayle Robinson, Tim Hymel and James Solet. Mancuso traveled throughout the southern United States to represent his team and the area. Mancuso will be continuing his baseball career at Central Catholic High School. Court Massabielle 1134 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas celebrated its 85th anniversary with an awards banquet.
