Entrepreneurship Fest is June 20 in Houma

HOUMA — Laura Valenti, Mrs. Louisiana International 2013 and founder of the SHE-Selling consulting firm, is among the many business leaders and industry experts scheduled to speak and lead breakout sessions at the inaugural Louisiana Entrepreneurship Fest: For Youth and First-Time Entrepreneurs.

Spearheaded by Louisiana Economic Development and the Terrebonne Parish Economic Development Authority, the conference is slated for June 20 to 21 at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center.

Attendees will learn the basics of establishing and growing a business. The event will be the first statewide entrepreneurial symposium targeting high school juniors and seniors, university students, entrepreneurial-minded non-students, veterans and teachers.

Valenti, an instructor of marketing at Nicholls State University, will close the first day of the conference with a motivational address titled “The Word ‘Entrepreneur’ Means ‘I Work for Myself!’” — scheduled for 4:15 p.m.

Her Friday breakout session, at 10:10 a.m. and titled “SHE-Selling: Selling Her/Him Every Day,” will provide attendees with an overview of personal selling and marketing skills.

Valenti’s 13 years of corporate and executive positions include franchise marketing manager and website director for Planet Beach Franchising Corporation; director of recruitment for Northwestern Mutual of Louisiana; and owner of Briosa, a women’s clothing boutique.

Her current firm — SHE-Selling: Selling Her Everyday — focuses on the personal selling capabilities of women who are beginning their careers.
