Errol Johnson, 52, of Belle Rose, was arrested Thursday at 1:35 p.m. on warrants charging him with simple burglary and attempted simple burglary. The arrest was the result of an investigation into a report Tuesday of a stolen wallet. Detectives learned that the wallet was taken from a vehicle in the parking lot of a store in Bayou Vista. The victim was approached by a male subject who claimed the victim’s vehicle was leaking gasoline. The subject offered to press down the gas pedal while the victim checked the back of the car. While inside the vehicle, the subject took the victim’s wallet. As the investigation progressed, detectives received information of a similar crime occurring in the Houma area. Working with information from the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, including the identity of a possible suspect, detectives began investigating whether the crimes were related and whether Johnson, the suspect wanted by Terrebonne Parish authorities, was responsible for the theft in Bayou Vista. A deputy responded to a report Thursday of a suspicious person in the parking lot of the same store in Bayou Vista. Shortly after, deputies were informed that Johnson had been arrested by Morgan City police who had responded to a separate complaint. Johnson reportedly admitted to sheriff’s office detectives that he committed the crime and attempted to burglarize a second vehicle. No bond was set.
