A 34-year-old Berwick man was jailed this morning after being accused of throwing someone’s cell phone against a wall and threatening a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Orion P. McCranie, 34, of the 400 block of Wilson Street in Berwick, was arrested at 1:38 a.m. today for simple criminal damage to property, disturbing the peace, and threatening a public official. A deputy responded to a request to remove a person from a bar on La. 182 in Bayou Vista.
Upon gathering statements from witnesses, the deputy determined that McCranie was causing a disturbance at the business by yelling and refusing to the leave the location. During the disturbance, McCranie threw a patron’s cell phone against a wall damaging it. While transporting him to the parish jail, McCranie used racial slurs and made threats towards the deputy, Hebert said. Bail is set at $2,000.
Hebert reported responding to 47 complaints and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Nicole A. St. Germaine, 38, of the 300 block of Aucoin Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:06 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for probation violation. St. Germaine was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center by Jeanerette Police on the warrant. No bail is set.
—Leann N. Jones, 24, of the 200 block of Jones Street in Berwick, was arrested at 1:57 p.m. Thursday on a warrant from Lafayette Parish for failure to appear. No bail is set.
—Nathaniel Paul, 22, of the 700 block of Fifth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:26 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of direct contempt, operating a vehicle with improper headlamps, and failure to honor written promise to appear. During booking at the parish jail, a deputy learned of the active warrant. No bond is set.
—Jamal Gibson, 27, of the 100 block of Headland Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:29 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for possession of Schedule I drugs. No bail is set.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Brandon G. Griffin, 19, of Morgan City, was arrested at 9:22 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for theft and a warrant for illegal possession of stolen things.
Officers came into contact with a male, Griffin, in the area of Teche Regional Medical Center and learned of an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The warrants stemmed from an investigation of a theft of a camera by Thibodaux Police Department, which indicated that the camera was taken to Morgan City and pawned at a local pawn shop for $120 cash.
Detectives investigated and secured arrest warrants for Griffin with regards to the May 2014 incident. He was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated. He was released after posting cash bail.
—Shane T. Martin, 43, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:06 a.m. today for improper lighting and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
An officer observed a vehicle with improper lighting in the area of Eighth and Clothilde streets and stopped the vehicle to investigate. The driver, Martin, was observed to be in an impaired condition by the officer.
He submitted to the Intoxilyzer 5000 test, which indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .086 grams-percent and was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Darrin Hemphill, 46, of Stephensville Road in Stephensville, was arrested at 8:33 a.m. Thursday for disturbing the peace intoxicated. Hemphill was released on $200 cash bail.
—Danielle Jones, 27, of Erhlich Street in Berwick, was arrested at 4:13 p.m. Thursday for driving under suspension, no proof of insurance and expired motor vehicle inspection sticker. Jones was jailed on $1,500 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
