Police chief: Man jailed for striking three Morgan City police officers

A 44-year-old Minden man was accused of striking three police officers Friday night after police responded to a complaint of a man waving a handgun in a motel parking lot, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Jerry L. McTaggart, 44, of Minden, was arrested at 11:41 p.m. Friday for disturbing the peace, three counts of battery on an officer, resisting an officer, and on warrants for failure to pay a fine on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated and failure to pay a fine for resisting an officer.
Officers were dispatched to a La. 182 motel in regard to a person in the parking lot pointing a handgun at bystanders and shouting. Officers located a man who fit the description identifying him as McTaggart.
Officers discovered that McTaggart was not armed with a weapon, but was waving a cell phone charger. As officers interviewed the subject, he became combative toward officers. He had to be physically restrained and placed into the police unit, the chief said. During the altercation, the McTaggart threatened and eventually struck three separate officers who were attempting to restrain him, Banks said. McTaggart was jailed.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Anthony J. Harris, 17, of Arizona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:40 a.m. Friday on warrants for failure to appear for illegal carrying of a firearm, failure to appear for disturbing the peace; failure to appear for possession of marijuana and contempt of court.
Harris, who was already incarcerated in the Morgan City Jail was booked on several outstanding warrants for the City Court of Morgan City. He was jailed.
—Brandon Kellerhals, 23, of Utah Street in Berwick, was arrested at 3:08 a.m. Friday for appearing in public intoxicated.
Kellerhals was arrested after he arrived at the Morgan City Police Department and attempted to turn himself in on an outstanding warrant. Officers were unable to confirm a warrant for Kellerhals. Kellerhals, who was intoxicated was given an opportunity to return home, however, Kellerhalls returned to the police department in an intoxicated condition and became belligerent towards officers, Banks said. He was jailed.
—Mai N. Amador, 31, of Maple Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:40 a.m. Friday on a warrant for theft by fraud (Value $1,122.83).
Amador turned herself in to the warrant officer with the Morgan City Police Department to be booked on an outstanding warrant. The warrants originated from an investigation by detectives with the Morgan City Police Department regarding a theft from a La. 182 department store by an employee. Investigators were able to determine that Amador had taken funds on 13 different transactions beginning on May 29, 2013, Banks said. The total of the thefts were valued at $1,122.83. Amador was booked and released after posting $5,000 bail.
—Deshawn Moore, 18, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:12 p.m. Friday on a warrant from St. Mary Parish for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of weapon in presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of Schedule II cocaine, resisting an officer by giving false information.
Moore, who was riding a bicycle left the area appeared to be attempting to avoid the officer, Banks said. The officer was able to detain the Moore in the area of East Boulevard and Railroad Avenue and upon attempting to identify the Moore, was given a false name in an apparent effort to conceal his true identity. The officer was able to identify the man as Moore. He was jailed.
—Shane Scully, 26, of Pecan Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:19 p.m. Friday on a warrant from St. Tammany Parish for theft of a vehicle.
Scully was located on La. 182 in Morgan City. Scully was jailed.
—Isaiah T. Thomas, 24, of Leo Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 8:32 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to pay probation fees.
Thomas was located at the Patterson Police and transported to the Morgan City Police Department.
—Leroy Favors, 60, of Bowman Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:16 a.m. Saturday for appearing intoxicated in public and resisting an officer.
—Larry Mingo, 51, of Bowman Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:18 a.m. Saturday for obstruction of justice and disturbing the peace intoxicated
—Lydia F. Bastien, 49, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:18 a.m. Saturday for appearing intoxicated in public.
Officers were dispatched to a Bowman Street residence regarding a reported medical emergency. Officers arrived with ambulance personnel and discovered Mingo refusing emergency workers attempts to enter the residence, Banks said. Mingo, who appeared highly intoxicated eventually allowed officers to enter the residence where they located another man, Favors, crawling on the floor and a female, Bastien sitting on the couch inside, Banks said.
All subjects appeared intoxicated and were shouting obscenities, he said. As officers were attempting to determine the condition of Favors, they observed items of drug paraphernalia which Mingo retrieved and ran to the rear of the residence where he discarded the items in the toilet, Banks said. No medical emergency was present. All three were jailed.
—Kevin J. Drexler, 31, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:01 a.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to pay probation fees. Officers located Drexler on La. 182 in Morgan City and placed him under arrest on outstanding warrants for the Morgan City Police Department. Drexler was jailed.
—Traylon Grogan, 22, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:36 a.m. Saturday on a warrant for remaining on premises after being forbid.
Grogan was located by officers on Ditch Avenue and La. 182 and jailed.
—Noel I. Trimm, 26, of Ciro Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:53 p.m. Saturday for improper lighting, possession of Schedule I marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
An officer observed a vehicle with improper lighting in the area of Roderick St. and stopped the vehicle to investigate. The driver was identified as Trimm. Officers detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and detained the driver. Trimm was found to be in possession of marijuana along with items of paraphernalia. She was jailed.
—Luis Martinez, 28, of Morgan City, was arrested at 4:01 p.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace intoxicated and resisting an officer.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Sixth Street regarding an intoxicated subject. Officers arrived in the area and located a male subject, later identified as Luis Martinez who was found in an intoxicated condition. As officers attempted to place Martinez under arrest, he became combative and had to by physically restrained. He was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated.
—Curtis Robinson, 44, of Morgan City, was arrested at 2:25 a.m. Sunday for aggravated second degree battery and on a warrant for probation violation.
Officers were dispatched to a Brashear Avenue motel in regard to a female being struck by another person. Officers located the victim with a severe gash injury to the head. The female identified Robinson as the person who had struck her with a telephone causing the injury, Banks said.
Robinson was located inside a motel room and questioned. Robinson was jailed. The victim was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center where she was treated for the injury.
—Jamaine Tsang, 31, of Montgomery, Texas, was arrested Sunday for possession of Schedule II methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—George Coleman, 29, of Montgomery, Texas, was arrested at 3:15 a.m. Sunday for possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of a Legend Drug without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and transactions involving proceeds from controlled dangerous substance activity.
—Brandon Boudreaux, 27, of Lizabeth Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:15 a.m. Sunday for possession of Schedule II methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Narcotics division detectives secured a search warrant for a room located at a La. 182 motel based on an investigation into illegal drug activity at that location. With assistance from the St. Mary Parish Narcotics Division, investigators secured the location and located Boudreaux, Tsang and Coleman. Detectives also located several items of drug paraphernalia, marijuana and a large amount of methamphetamine along with a prescribed antibiotic, amoxicillin without a prescription, Banks said. Investigators also located monies which had been derived from the sales of narcotics at the location. All three were jailed.
—Roland J. Loupe Jr., 27, of Sandra Court in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:07 a.m. Sunday for theft of goods (Value $248.63).
Officers were summoned to a La. 182 supermarket in regards to a shoplifter. Loupe was identified as the suspect. According to management, Loupe concealed several food items, and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. Loupe was jailed and released after posting cash bail.
—Ryan J. Delahoussaye, 20, of Onstead Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:27 p.m. Sunday on a St. Mary Parish warrant for two counts of failure to comply with drug court.
An officer observed Delahoussaye in the area of Onstead Street and was aware of an outstanding warrant for Delahoussaye. He was jailed.
—Jeremy A. Hanks, 36, of Arkansas Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:39 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for allowing dogs to roam. Hanks was located near Second Street and Everette Street and jailed.
