A 22-year-old Morgan City man wanted in connection with the rape and beating of a 16-year-old girl on April 15 has been apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Iberia Parish, according to a St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office news release.
Atlas J. White, 22, of the 1300 block of Oil Tank Alley in Morgan City, was wanted on a warrant for aggravated rape and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.
On April 16, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received information from a hospital regarding a possible rape victim who was being treated in the emergency room, the release stated.
Detectives determined that the 16-year-old female victim was beaten and raped April 15 at a residence in Amelia. Detectives identified White, a person the victim knew, as the suspect in the crime, the release stated.
White was also accused of entering the home without permission. The victim has been released from the hospital and is recovering, sheriff's office spokeswoman Traci Landry said.
