ST. MARY PARISH 4-H’ER Rosemarie Colley recently competed at the 4-H State Shooting Sports Competition in Shreveport and Grand Cane, La. She won the Junior Division in the Archery Recurve Sighted Modified FITA. This involves using a traditional recurve bow equipped with sights. Target distances included 10, 15 and 20 meters. 4-H Shooting Sports is a growing sport not only in our state but in the nation. Through certified instructors, 4-H’ers are taught marksmanship, the safe and responsible use of firearms, the principles of hunting and archery and much more. Disciplines taught in St. Mary Parish include BB, air rifle, smallbore rifle, archery and shotgun. 4-H’ers can compete at the Regional and State levels. Those who qualify can compete at the National level. St. Mary 4-H’ers who competed in 2015 were Brawley Andrews, Gage Battaglio, Remington Begley, Dylan Bergeron, Nicholas Bergeron, Rosemarie Colley, Jack Colley, McKaila Darden, Joseph Lange, Bryce Miguez, David Nugent and Carl Taylor Stirling.
