Bayou Vista Garden Club installs 2013-15 officers
The Bayou Vista Garden Club May meeting was highlighted by the presentation of awards and the installation of officers.
Donna Bucci, vice president, announced awards presented at the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Convention held April 15 to 17 in Kenner.
In state, noncompetitive awards, the local club received Garden Club Achievement — Gold Seal with gold ribbon, Horticulture Honor Roll — Gold Seal, Arbor Day Certificate of Merit, and Special Conservation Award. In competitive awards category, the club was presented with Publicity Press Book, third place and Yearbook Award of Recognition.
Bayou Vista Garden Club extended its thanks to The Daily Review for its assistance to the club in accomplishing its publicity goal.
President Gloria Roy presented perfect attendance certificates to members Kim Alcina, Bucci, Roy, Jo Ann Ryan and Janice Verret. Roy also presented outgoing officers with gifts of appreciation. Roy received a gift from the club recognizing her service during her 2011-13 term.
Officers for 2013-15 were presented with a hummingbird solar light to represent the illumination of knowledge about gardens, landscape and environment during the installation ceremony. Officers for the next two years are Bucci, president; Ryan, vice president; Dawn Thomason, recording secretary; Verdie Laws, corresponding secretary; Verret, treasurer; Mary Myers, parliamentarian; Crystal Marcel, historian; and Nancy Marcel, chaplain.
Bayou Vista Garden Club members were treated to a meal by hostesses Della Topham and Verret with additional member contributions. Theme of the meeting was hummingbirds.
Table centerpieces, designed by Verret, were hummingbird mini-container gardens accented with hummingbird feeders and wind chimes. Verret also designed a larger container garden, “Hummingbird Haven,” which included blue salvia (Salvia officinalis), red salvia (Salvia splendens), turk’s cap (Malvaviscus arboreus), red verbena (Verbena), and coral fountain firecracker (Russelia equisetiformis).
Door prize winner was Jean Chauvin.
